ActivitiesMOMS Club® schedules many activities to meet the needs of the Moms and kids in their chapters. All members are invited and encouraged to attend as many or as few events as they would like. Some of the types of activities we offer, as well as a sample calendar, are listed below. Please contact your chapter with any questions regarding our activities. Monthly Business Meeting: Once a month the MOMS Club® comes together for their monthly business meeting. Join us each month for a fun socialization time and great speakers. Some of the topics we have covered in the past include kindergarten readiness, Positive Parenting, Kindermusik, and Massage Therapist. Moms Activities: Each month the MOMS Club® has ongoing activities for Moms. Most of these activities are kid friendly and moms are invited to bring their little ones. Some of the mom activities we have participated in over the last few months include:
Kids Activities: Each month the MOMS Club® schedules a number of daytime activities for Moms and Tots. Some kid oriented activities we have participated in over the last few months include:
Holiday Parties: Be sure to join us for our great holiday parties including a Fall Costume party, Spring Egg Hunt, End of Year Party, and more! Newsletter: The monthly newsletter is sent to all members to keep you up-to-date regarding activities, community events, great craft ideas, humorous stories and poems, and much more. Playgroups: We can place you in a playgroup with other children the same age as your child(ren). The children benefit greatly from socializing in small groups, and so do the Moms! Most of our playgroups meet weekly.
CommitteesYour MOMS Club is as strong as its members. We offer a number of ways for you to participate to enrich your membership.
The Hospitality committee is designed to help new moms get acclimated with other club members and activities that the club has to offer. After joining the club, a new member will get paired up with a member of the hospitality committee who will serve as a mentor or a buddy. The role of the mentor is to contact the new member and invite them to get together for coffee or lunch to talk about the club and its activities. Then it is the goal of the mentor to invite the new member to 2 club events in the first two months of membership. At these events, the mentor will introduce the new member to other moms and make her feel welcome. Periodically the executive board or its designee will host new member brunches in which the new member and their mentor will be invited to participate.
The special events committee is responsible for coordinating 4 seasonal parties each year for the entire membership. Typically the 4 events are scheduled in the spring, summer, fall and winter. There is a small budget for planning these events and the committee, if they choose to do so may raise funds to supplement that budget.
Representative of the S in MOMS, the Sunshine Committee may be called upon whenever a member feels she could benefit from some Support from fellow members. Situations may include bed rest during pregnancy, the birth or adoption of a baby, surgery or a death in the family. Assistance will be primarily in the form of meals, but may include errands and childcare if needed.
The Book Club chooses a book and holds a discussion about every 6 weeks on Thursdays. We typically alternate between morning and afternoon meeting times to try and allow people a chance to attend based on what works better for their schedules. As with all daytime MOMS Club events, children are welcome. Do you love to scrapbook but never seem to have time? Are you behind on your albums, or haven’t even started? We’ve got a scrapbooking club that is going to meet once a month!
MNO is held once a month on various evenings of the week. This is the one club event that we do not include children, since is it intended to be an evening of unwinding with the girls.
The Cooking club meets about once every 6 weeks to trade meals. Each member who participates submits a recipe to the group in advance (this is so we don’t have duplicates) and then makes one meal for each of the other members who is participating in that exchange. For example if we have 8 people participating, then each person makes 8 meals. They leave one at home for themselves and bring the other seven in a disposable container to the exchange along with a copy of the recipe and cooking/ thawing instructions. For obvious reasons, the meals are intended to be frozen.
The Club has four age-based organized playgroups. As a courtesy, we ask that if you have more than one child, you please attend the oldest child’s playgroup, unless your other child(ren) will be in school or at another activity the day of the playgroup. We ask this because not everyone’s home is equipped to handle older children. For example someone with their first newborn is not going to have toys appropriate for a 3 year old. The playgroups have organized their own meeting times and rotate hosts. Members can either host a playgroup at their home or chose another location such as a park or play place.
The playgroups are as follows: Bouncing Babies (ages newborn-walking) Little Cruisers (ages 1-2 years) Funky Monkeys (ages 2-3 years) Curious Kids (ages 3 and up)
Please contact the playgroup coordinator to join a playgroup. If the day and time does not work out for you, you are more than welcome to begin your own playgroup. |
